What's on BC's mind...

February 14, 2012

Twenty years of my performance evolution all culminated during this Valentine's Day Concert at the Steel Stack's Musikfest Cafe concert along with 27 extraordinary musicians and an amazing support team.  Thank you to all who attended, worked, performed and volunteered.  This will forever remain an extraordinary capture of genuinely humble and powerful Lehigh Valley talent all performing together in 3 hours of non-stop bliss.  Just a sample of what transpired...

Sometimes you die before you realize all the tremendous blessings you have.  I thank God each and every day for mine.  An extremely monumental moment was an unexpected blessing, acknowledgement by my very own community for what we love to do - perform our music the only way we know how.  Thank you to all who participated in the voting process at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards.  To hear my son sing the national anthem and to share a beautiful event with neighbors, musicians and friends - priceless.  Kudos to the LVMA staff and Artsquest for bringing this event to the Steelstacks Musikfest Cafe in Bethlehem, PA.  (see write-up) and check out LVMA on Facebook.  My only regreat is how the write-ups are done, it's treated like a football game.  I didn't beat out Sarah Ayers.  No one can take away anyone's amazing talent.  Even Sarah was there to share a precious moment with me as I always have done for her.  I don't much care for who beat who or who got what for so many years in a row.  It's about celebration and respect by your peers and the community that you live in.  So yes, for those who thrive on negativity and cannot simply enjoy the wealth of talent in this community which we live in, you'll remain frustrated.  I for one learn more and more about the wealth of talent in this valley because of the LVMA's.  I'm very proud of grammy winner, Gloria Domina, who has remained a tremendous supporter of live music, art and women in arts.  She's our angel, she works hard and she has a wealth of angels supporting her efforts (too many to possibly list).
I AM HONORED - THANK YOU FOR VOTING.

Sometimes I wonder how I've been so blessed to be able to work with my band mates and perform for 20 years.  Then I experience The Sand Bar jams and a lot of joy comes in intimate venues.  I wasn't dressed up this particular day because I was lugging video and band equipment to try and practice for my new videographer role at work.  So I wore my Saints t-shirt (Who Dat!) and chewed my gum (forgetting to take it out before singing) as I got the rig set-up and camera rolling.  I have a lot of jam video from this night to edit down, but this is one capture I have edited down as we opened the jam on this day.  One of my favorite songs to do..."Tain't Nobody's Business" inspired by the late great Freddy King. (see video using quicktime)

BC & Lea with The Combo at Godfrey Daniels

LEA GILMORE
and I met at a blues cruise on land in the late 1990's at an all weekend blues festival called, Blues 2000 & Beyond.  We bonded immediately as we continued to host women's blues related panel discussions and presentations annually at this event and during Blues Foundation sponsored events in Memphis.  I was attracted to Lea's gospel and Lea to my blues and we committed to working together, which is how Godfrey Daniels came about hosting our show.  We celebrated our 5th reunion last night.  But the most precious joy about Lea's visit was her presence and impact on each and every person in the room.

Lea's gift is a blessing to all of us who have come to know her and experience her ministry in music and life.  Please visit her on Facebook and support her upcoming CD.  She will be bringing the show on this CD to our area and has invited us to join the show when this occurs.  We will keep you posted!

In memory of all that we lost on September 11... and to cherish life for the blessings we all still have.

Peace, love and God Bless!
